Minister tells councillors they don't have to declare tax

Local government minister Brandon Lewis has written to council leaders after it emerged some monitoring officers have asked councillors to declare an interest for being council taxpayers.

Local government minister Brandon Lewis has written to council leaders after it emerged some monitoring officers have asked councillors to declare an interest for being council taxpayers.

According to the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG), some councils have informed members that they must declare an interest before they take part in budget debates, purely for being council tax payers.
