Ministers have defended the Coalition's progress in releasing cash for local growth projects, following a critical report by an influential Commons spending watchdog.

A report issued today by the Public Accounts Committee, based on an earlier report by the National Audit Office (NAO), castigates the departments responsible for overseeing local economies for failure to coordinate their activities or set common goals.
