Ministers issue councils 'last chance' warning over adoption

Ministers to strip councils of their responsibility for finding adoptive parents if national backlog is not dealt with.

Ministers have pledged to strip councils of their responsibility for finding adoptive parents if they fail to deal with a national backlog of 4,600 children awaiting homes with new families.

The 'last chance' warning comes amid ministerial concern that local authorities are not recruiting for adopters to meet the national shortage.
