Whitehall must improve its oversight of council finances after auditors were unable to sign off the public sector’s accounts for the first time, MPs have said.

Whitehall must improve its oversight of council finances after auditors were unable to sign off the public sector's accounts for the first time, MPs have said. 

A Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report said it was ‘concerned that the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government does not have sufficient oversight of local government to foresee issues and intervene where appropriate'.
