Laws governing misconduct in public office are outdated, unclear and in need of reform, the Law Commission has claimed as the number of prosecutions soar.

The Commission has called to law to be clarified and modernised in a bid to target more serious cases of misconduct. Under its proposals, two offences would be created – one for corruption in public office and one for breach of duty in public office.
