The UK's largest union has warned the cost of social care should not be borne by councils alone – and is calling for a revised system to be modelled on the NHS.

Unison this week reported it wanted social care to be free at the point of use, and funded through general taxation, arguing that ‘serious savings' could be made from fully integrating health and social care.
