Organisations representing mountaineers and climbers this week joined the escalating debate over wind farms in the Scottish countryside, despite ministers recently telling local councils they should not delay renewable energy projects.

Last month, Scotland's local government minister, Derek Mackay, wrote to Fife and Moray councils rejecting their requests for a moratorium on new wind farms. The councils had claimed there was ‘significant support' locally for a moratorium.
