A political campaign can only end in one of two ways. Either you lose – in which case you grind your teeth, blame the media, and (if you are sensible) try to reflect on why you lost so you might win next time. Or you win, and after the all too brief euphoria of victory you face up to the terrifying truth that you now have to govern.

Liz Truss is already facing that reality. No more blaming someone else (although I would be surprised if she doesn't try), just decisions on how to use your newly gained power. Leadership presents a very different set of challenges, a sharply different pace of life, and a completely different level of real-world importance in what you say and do (or at least there should be).
