Ministers are exaggerating local councils' ability to improve air quality and must prioritise action to reduce pollution from transport, according to Parliament's green watchdog.

The Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) today published a damning report on efforts to clean up the nation's air quality, which it says is a contributing factor in tens of thousands of premature deaths every year.
