MPs warn that councils may not meet legal duties

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) would not be able to guarantee every local authority could meet its legal duties, were anticipated further cutbacks announced in the next Spending Review, an influential spending watchdog has warned.

A report issued today by the Commons Public Accounts Committee (PAC) finds the department has failed to understand the impact of 37% funding cuts on council finances and services between 2010/11 and 2015/16.
