We need a national strategy to tackle knife crime

It's not just gangs and knives that need to be addressed when it comes to the basic social issues, says Heather Jameson. While home secretary Sajid Javid's plans for tackling the issue are admirable, they are not enough.

Following the tragic news of two fatal stabbings last weekend, the Government has proclaimed that knife crime is a national crisis. Home secretary Sajid Javid has vowed to call together police commissioners to tackle the issue head-on.

While there is no silver bullet, there is talk of knife ASBOs and Government tsars – and a denial that the rise is related to falling numbers of police officers.
