Local government faces a potential ‘double whammy' of costs when public health staff are transferred from the NHS next year, we learned this week.

NHS salaries are a little higher than equivalent salaries in local government, and health staff will want to retain advantageous pay deals – but they may also want the potentially-improved pension plan which compensates town hall workers for their lower pay.
