Norfolk CC's assistant director of children's services is to retire in March after more than a decade as one of the county's education leaders.

Fred Corbett came to the area in 1998 as chief inspector of Norfolk schools, having previously worked as a teacher and teacher trainer. He became assistant director for advisory and improvement services at the county council in 2000, then assistant director of children's services in 2005. Mr Corbett has helped bring about big improvements in the county's GCSE results, and to set up a network of children's centres and outdoor learning service for young people.
