Residents of western England have been deprived of claiming their directly-elected mayor looks like the proverbial back end of a bus – thanks to quick-thinking local officials.

Dan Norris, mayor of the West of England Combined Authority, recently wanted to plaster large images of himself and his dog – one of them three meters high – on the sides and back of a bus to advertise free ‘birthday month' fares and promote bus-driving careers.
