Cities that choice to go for a directly elected mayor will hold the first mayoral elections on 15 November 2012, cities minister Greg Clark has announced.

The 11 cities - Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Coventry, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, Nottingham, Sheffield and Wakefield - will decide if they want to shift to the mayoral model in a referendum to be held in May.
