Questions have been raised about the Government's localism agenda, after plans have been approved for disposing of radioactive waste at a landfill site in Northamptonshire, despite local opposition.

The decision by communities secretary, Eric Pickles, followed a two-year local campaign opposing the plan in Kings Cliffe, with 98% of people voting against the move in local referenda.
