Paul Nugent, who is currently head of standards at Southampton City Council, has been named for the post of service director – learning and achievement, with the children and young people's directorate at Somerset CC.

Representatives of the three head teacher associations in Somerset were involved in the selection process, and supported Mr Nugent's appointment.
