Nukes ruling welcomed

Plans to offer communities compensation in return for storing nuclear waste have been welcomed by the Nuclear Free Local Authorities group (NFLA).

The Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CoRWM) published proposals last week for the long-term management of radioactive waste, including offering support packages for communities living near storage sites. The recommendations were welcomed by Stewart Kemp of the NFLA, who said communities should be offered ‘appropriate compensation' for living near nuclear waste storage sites.
