Brian Gibbons, former chairman of Bedfordshire CC, has died aged 84.

Mr Gibbons, a former RAF officer and wartime merchant navy radio officer, was a well-known figure in Bedford, having stood twice for Parliament as a Liberal following his election as Newnham ward councillor in 1975, a position in which he served until 1997. In his last year of office, he was chairman of the county council.
