Officials forced to clarify tax referendum scenario

Finance experts at Eland House write to local authority chief executives for clarification on council tax referenda.

Finance experts at Eland House have been forced to write to local authority chief executives, clarifying the circumstances under which council tax referenda would be held – following concerns the trigger-point could be lower than ministers had inferred.

DCLG officials penned the letter on 10 February ‘to dispel confusion' after issues raised by former local government minister, John Healey.
