'Omnishambles' puts councils in the thick of it

Jonathan Werran says the double dip recession will have an enormous significance to local authorities' spending plans.

The Government's precipitous loss of reputation and popularity – a decline sparked by an unimaginative, cost-neutral Budget – is now posing serious questions about the sustainability of government policies.

‘Omnishambles', a term drawn from fans of TV satire The Thick Of It passed from cult phrase to worn out cliché within the space of a week, as unintended consequences piled on to unforced ministerial errors.
