Onwards and upwards for Coalville

Regenerating Coalville became a corporate priority of North West Leicestershire DC in 2015. Despite some knocks along the way, it feels like the work of the council and others is starting to make difference, says James Arnold.

The former mining town of Coalville in Leicestershire is ‘on the up' – not something we would have expected to hear, even two years ago, yet this was the comment from a local resident on regional news recently. We agree – the town is showing more positive signs, and it is heartening to hear that local people are noticing.

That news item was about our state of the art £22.5m leisure centre, which opened its doors to the public five months ahead of schedule in February.
