When Andrew Travers arrived in Lambeth LBC in October 2017, taking on the interim role of chief executive, the biggest issue at the council was negotiating a £100m redress scheme for victims of historical abuse in the borough's former children's homes.
It was a tougher transition to a new job than most and ‘getting it over the line was incredibly important'. While the abuse survivors' group were no100t % happy with the final deal, he says that ‘for the most part' there was agreement. ‘We feel the scheme is achieving what was intended, which is to recognise what happened and make redress as much as we can.'
