Council bosses and charities have called for better co-ordinated care services, after a report exposed the large number of elderly people being admitted to hospital.

A King's Fund report, published last week, claimed hospitals could cut the number of overnight stays for the over-65s by 2.3 million, and save £462m a year, if health trusts and social care services were more co-ordinated.
