Chancellor George Osborne today accepted the bulk of the 89 recommendations contained in Lord Heseltine's independent growth review, but rejected the coalition growth guru's call to abolish district councils.

The Government's response to last November's ‘No Stone Unturned' report accepts the creation by April 2015 of a single local growth fund to drive skills, housing and transport schemes.
