George Osborne has urged the Government to ‘sustain' support for the Northern Powerhouse while vowing he will ‘not let go' of the agenda.

The former chancellor said the policy had gained ‘more currency than I could have possibly imagined' and praised the ‘quiet revolution' that had taken place in devolving powers to local government since he took office in 2010.
