Outsource HR at your peril

Stuart Jones argues new whistleblowing laws which come into force today are a potential HR minefield.

Stories of whistleblowing have dominated national headlines over recent months. Today UK whistleblowing law will change, with the aim of encouraging disclosures in the public interest and avoid abuse of the protection it was originally designed to offer.

Employers and managers across all sectors - public and private alike - need to understand that this HR minefield is about to be laid with a whole new set of tripwires.

Changes to current laws will give whistleblowers even more protection. Under the new legislation, the ‘good faith' element that required employees to make disclosures based on true concerns has been removed, allowing employees to bring potentially malicious claims without fear of reprisal.
