Decent pay for councillors is the best way to ensure effective local democracy, claims London Councils.

The lobbying group – formerly the Association of London Government – is set to endorse recommendations from an independent panel on the remuneration of councillors in London which calls for better pay for councillors. The report says decent rates of remuneration would open up opportunities for individuals to serve and reflect their communities as councillors.
