'Pay families' to look after elderly, say MPs

The Free Enterprise Group of Conservative MPs suggests councils should be free to make direct payments to families.

Councils should be free to make direct payments to families to look after the care of elderly relatives, the Free Enterprise Group of Conservative MPs has suggested.

A new report from the pressure group claims the Government could save an estimated £1.4bn a year by funding families directly, rather than sending elderly people into more expensive local authority care.
