Scottish chief executives have admitted the current system of payments for overseeing elections is ‘old-fashioned’ after trade unions criticised the money involved.

Scottish chief executives have admitted the current system of payments for overseeing elections is ‘old-fashioned' after trade unions criticised the money involved.

The secretary of GMB Scotland, Gary Smith, attacked council bosses after it was reported they could receive an average of £32,000 for their work overseeing the elections since 2014, including Scottish referendum and next month's EU referendum poll.
