Ministers today published legislation for reforming public service pensions - which unions have vowed to fight, raising the sceptre of a general strike next spring.

Treasury officials have forecast the Public Service Pensions Bill 2013 could deliver £65bn savings over the next half century – roughly one sixth of the £430bn target figure the Coalition's overarching reforms seek to achieve by 2062.
