Rumours of the death of PM David Cameron's Big Society initiative appear to be exaggerated – with research showing people are keen to take an active role in their communities.

According to a national survey of 2,000 people commissioned by financial services firm, Forresters UK, 43% of people would like to ‘do their bit' by volunteering on an ongoing basis – such as at a charity shop or hospice.
