Communities secretary Eric Pickles has given his backing to The MJ's ‘Power to the People' campaign, supporting council plans to bulk-buy cheaper energy on behalf of their residents.

Around 20 councils across the country are already developing community energy schemes, including large authorities such as Newcastle City Council, Cornwall Council and Oldham MBC.
