The integration of health and social care services will change the face of local government,
communities secretary Eric Pickles has proclaimed.

Speaking at the launch of the Local Government Information Unit's report on council support
for self-funders, Mr Pickles, said: I'm absolutely convinced that local government will not
look the same afterwards.'

‘I think we can offer the health service something that they don't quite have,' he added.
‘The best thing about local governmentis it is quick to change. It knows how to challenge the
orthodoxies in a way that the health service does not.'
