Former BDO International boss, Jeremy Newman, has been chosen by community secretary Eric Pickles, as his preferred candidate to become the last chairman of the Audit Commission.

Mr Newman, who served as chief executive at BDO International between 2008 and 2011 and was formerly managing partner at BDO's UK operations, will be questioned by MPs on the communities and local government select Committee on 3 September.
