Pickles: Councils acting out James Bond fantasies

Councils were accused of ‘acting out their James Bond fantasies’ by communities secretary Eric Pickles after it emerged they were given permission to look up more private communication than GCHQ and MI6.

Councils were accused of ‘acting out their James Bond fantasies' by communities secretary Eric Pickles after it emerged they were given permission to look up more private communication than GCHQ and MI6. 

The latest figures showed councils were given the go ahead to access internet use and telephone calls in 2,110 cases last year, compared with 1,291 cases for GCHQ and just 652 for MI6.
