Pickles extends high street fund deadline

Councils affected by August’s riots given further eight weeks to submit claims under the £20m high street support scheme.

Councils affected by August's riots have a further eight weeks to submit claims under the £20m high street support scheme, Eric Pickles announced today.

The communities secretary said ministers had listened to councils and shopkeepers by agreeing to push back the deadline from 7 November to 3 January 2012 – giving the 2,000 businesses affected time to cover the crucial Christmas period.
