Pickles: lobbying councillors could be charged with bribery

Councillors found to have taken payments to lobby for property developers could face criminal charges under the Bribery Act.

Councillors found to have taken payments to lobby on behalf of property developers to influence local planning decisions could face criminal charges under the Bribery Act - communities secretary Eric Pickles has stated.

In light of national newspaper reports, alleging certain councillors have breached standards codes by lobbying for developers, Pickles has also confirmed DCLG officials are to remind authorities of their duty to publish online registers of members' interests.
