Charities have warned councils to treat them fairly, after communities secretary Eric Pickles re-affirmed his pledge to ‘stand up' against disproportionate third-sector cuts.

Speaking at a conference in London in March, Mr Pickles said best-practice guidance published by his Department for Communities and Local Government last September should prevent third-sector groups from being seen as ‘an easy target' by councils seeking to slash their budgets.
