Pickles reveals council tax benefit plan

Communities secretary Eric Pickles has launched a consultation on council tax benefit, which aims to hand full control to local authorities.

Communities secretary Eric Pickles today launched a consultation on council tax benefit (CTB), which aims to hand full control of the system to local authorities.

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) said devolving CTB could save taxpayers up to £480m a year – meaning ministers have decided to proceed with plans for a 10% cut in the current £4.8bn annual CTB budget in exchange for localised control.
