Pickles slams councils' refusal to act on pay transparency

Communities secretary Eric Pickles has described as ‘insulting' the refusal of some councils to identify staff earning more than £58,200 a year, and said their justifications were ‘not credible'.

Mr Pickles last year ordered councils to publish details of high-earning staff. However some council chiefs have refused, saying they have so many the cost of listing them and their responsibilities could run into hundreds of thousands of pounds
