Communities secretary, Eric Pickles, urged charities to tell him directly if councils continued to make massive cuts to the third sector.

Mr Pickles wrote to Nottinghamshire CC last week, after the chief executive of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), Stuart Etherington, contacted him about the disproportionate cuts the local authority was making to its voluntary sector budget.
