Pickles welcomes Cipfa's council tax survey

Average council tax bills across England are set to increase by a mere 1% in 2015, public finance experts have calculated, to the delight of the communities secretary.

Average council tax bills across England are set to increase by a mere 1% in 2015, public finance experts have calculated.

A council tax survey published today by the Chartered Institute for Public Finance and Accountancy (Cipfa) shows average Band D council tax levels increased less than £16 in 2015/16 – increasing charges from £1,467,94 in 2014/15 to £1,483.92.

According to Cipfa, this modest increase proves the ongoing effect of the Coalitions's fifth consecutive offer of council tax freeze grant money and the threat of the 2% local tax referendum trigger.
