The fate of the Government's health reforms has been the dominant story on the domestic political agenda – both before and since the May elections.

There are, of course, various strands making up the ‘pause' for listening, reflection and improvement. The part that competition and the private sector may play in the delivery of health services has been attracting much attention but, for local government, there are other vital issues where our voice must be clearly heard during this period.
