Why Plymouth is putting volunteers at the heart of city issues

Darin Halifax explains how Plymouth has achieved fantastic results by harnessing the passion of volunteers through the Cities of Service programme.

Volunteers can play a powerful role in shaping their city, helping people and building a community. We know that many people want to help out and give something back to the place they call home.

Here in Plymouth we have been working to harness this enthusiasm and work with volunteers to address two major issues in our city – food and fuel poverty, as part of the Cities of Service programme.

Already through our Cities of Service initiative, which we call ‘Our Plymouth', we have achieved some fantastic results and volunteers have been the seed to that success.
