Police drop Parsons expenses case

Police and CPS to take no further action over expenses allegations that led to downfall of former Leicestershire CC leader.

Former Leicestershire CC leader David Parsons has demanded an independent enquiry into the authority's standards procedures - following the decision of the police and Crown Prosecution Service not to further pursue expenses allegations which caused his political downfall.

Police were originally asked in June 2012 to investigate expenses payments and receipts related to Cllr Parsons' travel arrangements and role on the European Committee of the Regions (CoR).  This followed the revelation he arranged for CoR payments ultimately due to the regional East Midlands Councils (EMC) body to be paid directly into his personal bank accounts.
