Senior politicians have pledged to tackle the growing crisis in social care funding, after local government leaders demanded action.

Chair of the Local Government Association (LGA), Sir Merrick Cockell, wrote to the three major national party leaders last week, calling on the parties to adopt the Dilnot Commission's proposal to introduce caps to care charges, and reform the care system.
