Politicised pressures of food banks

Is accepting that food banks are here to stay more depressing than relying on state emergency provision, asks Claire Fox

As mouth-watering Christmas food adverts fill our screens, it is a good time to reflect on the shocking social policy story du jour: Britain isn't eating.

That's the title of a new micro play released by The Guardian and the Royal Court Theatre to highlight the huge increase of food banks in Britain. The one-woman play's pantomime villainess is inevitably a heartless ‘posh' politician who sees food bank users as incompetent scroungers.
