An overwhelming majority of local authority chief executives believe there is still scope for further efficiencies in their councils, with a third naming all departments followed by back office and social services, according to a poll.

An overwhelming majority of local authority chief executives believe there is still scope for further efficiencies in their councils, with a third naming all departments followed by back office and social services, according to a poll.

Over a third of respondents said their gross budgets had fallen by 30%-40% in both cash terms in the past five years while 15% said their budgets had fallen by 50%-60%.
