Poll tax engraved on his heart

One unspoken legacy of the Thatcher's era has been its impact in Eric Pickles' localism strategy, according to Jonathan Werran.

Much has been made of Baroness Thatcher's legacy in the last fortnight.

Far too much for some, if the reaction of Paul Flynn MP is anything to go by. During a tumultuous start to a public administration select committee session last week, the firebrand Labour member Newport South, laid into cabinet secretary Sir Jeremy Heywood and Sir Bob Kerslake, head of the civil service and DCLG permanent secretary, for penning a joint newspaper article which praised the Iron Lady's relationship with the civil service.
